This class stands alone.
It's taught by Jen Brown, MA.
• Class introduction: A condensed look at general trends in art history starting with Impressionism, through Cubism, Abstract Expressionism, Minimalism, and Post-Modernism to understand the move to abstraction and the pendulum swing that seems to be bringing us back around to representational art, ending with current trends in Kitsch. A more in-depth look at figurative artists working today and philosophical arguments for beauty, some discussion to follow.
• Jen Brown holds a Masters Degree in Art History and a Curatorial Diploma from York University in Toronto (class of 2004). She is Canadian but has lived in Japan and Mexico, and currently resides in Portland, OR. She is a self-taught painter; however her education in Art History bears insight into her work. Her style can best be characterized as Figurative Realism. http://www.brownjen.com
