Today’s publishing industry can be somewhat confusing—and well, there’s a lot that gets involved when a book is acquired and goes into its publication process. This process can, at times, take up to an entire year! So, what all goes into bringing a book to life?
This class is geared towards writers and readers interested in understanding what happens to your piece of writing after its been acquired and what each of the different aspects of the publishing process actually entail. The class will provide a brief overview of the different publishing outlets available such as the Big Five, small presses, imprints, and nonprofits, as well as dive deeper into the steps towards becoming a published author. These steps include acquisitions, editorial, design, marketing and sales, publicity, and digital. Throughout the class, you’ll be given a glimpse of what happens behind the scenes in the publishing house and what you’d see outward facing as the author.
This class is the first of four in a series of classes taught by Brennah Hale. Join in on each of these discussions as we begin to divulge what exactly is today’s publishing industry.
